Brickellia (Asteraceae)

Brickellia californica

True shrub, ie. woody stems do not all die back each year. Achenes 10 ribbed. Superficially it may be confused with Ageratina herbacea.
B. californica is similar to B. microphylla var. scabra. However, B. californica is a larger plant with much larger leaves and the involucre bracts do not recurve. Also, B. californica grows in moist shady areas while B. microphylla var. scabra prefers drier areas.
